MOST of Burelli St, Wollongong, will be closed for five hours tomorrow, while the city council installs a new smoke exhaust fan on its 10-storey administration building's roof.

Three lanes will be closed from 6am-11am to allow a crane to operate.

An eastbound lane will remain open but delays are expected and motorists are advised to use Market, Crown and Stewart streets.

A city council spokeswoman said the 350kg smoke exhaust fan was part of a major upgrade of the council's fire services.

It would provide better smoke extraction from levels nine and 10 in case of a fire.
